Spineless Yucca

The Yucca, also known as Yucca cane or Yucca elephantipes, is a robust and resilient houseplant. Here's how to care for a Yucca cane:

1. Light: Yuccas prefer bright, indirect light. Place your plant near a sunny window, but avoid direct exposure to scorching sun, as this can damage the leaves. They also tolerate less ideal light conditions, but their growth may slow down.

2. Temperature: Yuccas thrive in temperatures between 15°C and 24°C. They are tolerant of temperature variations, but avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 7°C.

3. Watering: Yuccas are drought-tolerant and prefer slightly dry soil. Allow the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Water about once a month in summer and less frequently in winter.

4. Humidity: Yuccas tolerate normal humidity levels in most homes. You do not need to take special measures to increase humidity.

5. Fertilization: Fertilize the plant with a balanced houseplant fertilizer approximately every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization in fall and winter when growth slows down.

6. Pruning: Prune the plant as needed to remove dead or damaged leaves. Yellowed lower leaves can be removed to keep the plant tidy.

7. Repotting: Yuccas do not require frequent repotting. Do so when the plant becomes root-bound in its pot, usually every 2 to 3 years. Use a slightly larger pot and a well-draining cactus potting mix.
