Hardired Nectarine (prunus persica nucipersica)
Spectacular pink bloom. Plant in pot or in ground using the Italian method. 5b minimum in ground.
It is very susceptible to temperatures below -30°C and strong dry winter winds. We have often lost them above the snow line... this is why it must be planted in a protected situation (city, neighborhood, etc... microclimate).
It will start producing delicious, sweet, and juicy fruits as desired around 2 to 4 years after planting. Our experiences with growing peach and nectarine trees in pots have given us harvests of over 80 peaches and nectarines per tree for young plants. The tree is at its hardiness limit in zone 5b. We do not recommend it for zone 4, except for growing in large pots or as Italians do with fig trees in Montreal... that is, laying it down every winter with different protection methods. You can try your experiments with different ways to protect it.
Distance between two Nectarine trees (for good pollination): 10-12 feet
