It is said that this excellent melon for northern regions comes to us from Siberia, where Russians cultivated it extensively. In North America, it made its debut at the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station in 1901. It has succulent, apricot-colored flesh that is very flavorful and sweet. In 1937, McFayden Seeds of Winnipeg, Manitoba, described it as the largest early variety. It was once widely grown by Hutterite colonies in Manitoba, who sold them at market, but has become rarer nowadays. Abundant dark green oblong fruits are produced on a vigorous vine.
