Step 1: Secure Tanglefoot® Tangle-Guard Tree Wrap or similar waterproof paper or tape around the tree trunk at approximately 4 feet from the ground

Step 3: When sticky areas are covered with insects or debris, remove bands and reapply
Step 4: Remove bands at the end of the season
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
Tree Tanglefoot is oil based and oils will penetrate bark. Banding material eliminates staining on the tree and offers quick and complete removal of the sticky material. Additionally, Tree Tanglefoot will remain sticky longer when applied to an oil resistant surface. For trees with rough bark it may be necessary to plug the gaps between the tree trunk and banding, this can be done using insolation or other materials.
Apply Tree Tanglefoot Insect Barrier evenly. It can be applied in either a thick or light coat. Thick coats measure approximately 3” wide and 3/32” thick. A thick coat is used when insects being kept from tree foliage are large or numerous, or when there is little time available to service the band. Light coats measure 3” wide and 1/16” thick. A light coat is good as a general barrier against smaller or fewer insects, or when the band can be serviced regularly.
Generally, Tree Tanglefoot will remain sticky and effective until it is covered by insects, dust or other debris. An accumulation of debris or insects will create a bridge for other insects to cross. These debris should be removed and possibly reapplied in areas. If an area is unusually dusty or if the barrier surface has stiffened, Tree Tanglefoot can be rubbed to expose a new sticky layer underneath. Remove bands at the end of the season.
