Heart-leaf fern
Hemionitis arifolia, also known as the "heart fern," is an attractive tropical fern. Here's how to care for it:
-
Light: Place the heart fern in a bright location, but away from direct sunlight. It prefers bright, indirect light or filtered light. Avoid low-light areas, as this can slow the plant's growth.
-
Temperature: Maintain a constant temperature between 18°C and 24°C. The heart fern is sensitive to cold temperatures and should not be exposed to cold drafts or temperatures below 10°C.
-
Humidity: Hemionitis arifolia appreciates a humid environment. To maintain humidity, you can regularly mist the leaves with water or place a tray of water near the plant. A humidifier in the room can also be helpful.
-
Watering: Keep the soil slightly moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water, as this can lead to root rot.
-
Soil: Use a high-quality indoor potting mix with good water retention and drainage. Make sure the pot has drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.
-
Fertilization: Fertilize the heart fern approximately once a month in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half its recommended concentration.
-
Pruning: Prune dry or damaged fronds to encourage the growth of new leaves.
