Prayer Plant
The Maranta leuconeura kerchoveana, also known as the "Maranta Green Prayer Plant", is a variety of Maranta prized for its green leaves variegated with lighter patterns. Here's how to care for it:
Light: Maranta kerchoveana prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun exposure, as this can burn their leaves. Place the plant near a window that receives filtered light or away from direct sunlight.
Temperature: Maintain room temperature between 18°C and 24°C (64°F and 75°F). Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist, but avoid overwatering. Water as soon as the soil surface begins to dry. Use room-temperature water for watering.
Humidity: Maranta plants love humidity. You can increase the humidity around the plant by placing a water tray nearby or using a humidifier.
Potting Mix: Use a good quality, well-draining potting mix. Maranta plants appreciate good drainage to prevent root rot.
Fertilization: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your Maranta kerchoveana with a balanced, diluted fertilizer about once a month. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can harm the plant.
Pruning: Prune the plant to remove dead or damaged leaves. This will also promote healthier growth.
Rotation: Maranta plants react to light movement, so rotate the plant occasionally to prevent the leaves from leaning excessively towards the light source.
Repotting: If the plant becomes too large for its pot, you can repot it in the spring. Choose a pot slightly larger than the previous one, but do not oversize, as Maranta plants like to feel snug in their pot.
