Organic seed packet - Lettuce leaf Black Seeded Simpson - Ecoumene
We owe the selection of this famous leaf lettuce to the work of a Scottish seed merchant established in Pennsylvania in the mid-19th century. Peter Henderson & Co first offered it in his catalog in 1875, and its popularity has only grown since. Ten years later, it appeared in the world-renowned work "Les plantes Potagères" by the French Vilmorin and Andrieux.
Its early maturity and the sweet flavor of its light green, tender, crisp, and particularly juicy leaves quickly made it a favorite on the American continent and elsewhere. Everywhere, people agree in praising the insect and disease resistance of its beautiful pleated leaves.
Like all lettuces, it prefers cool temperatures, but it tolerates summer heat remarkably well. It can therefore be grown all season. The first harvest, which involves thinning the rows, will yield a good quantity of young leaves less than a month after sowing. The leaves are mature approximately two weeks later.
Number of days to harvest: Young leaves: 28 | Mature leaves: 45
