Snake plant koi fin
Sansevierias, also known as "Mother-in-Law's Tongue" or "Snake Plants," are popular and easy-to-care-for houseplants. Here's how to care for your Sansevieria:
1. Light: Sansevierias tolerate a wide range of light conditions, but they prefer bright indirect light to bright light. They can also survive in low-light conditions, but their growth may be slower in such conditions.
2. Watering: Sansevierias are succulents and prefer the soil to dry out between waterings. Let the soil dry completely before watering again. It's better to underwater than to overwater, as excess water can lead to root rot. In winter, reduce watering as the plant is less active.
3. Humidity: Sansevierias are very tolerant of normal to low ambient humidity. They do not require high humidity.
4. Fertilization: Fertilize lightly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced houseplant fertilizer approximately every 4 to 6 weeks. Reduce fertilization in autumn and winter.
5. Pruning: Pruning is generally not necessary for Sansevierias, but you can remove dead or damaged leaves as needed.
6. Temperature: Sansevierias tolerate a wide range of temperatures. Avoid temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
7. Repotting: Sansevierias do not need frequent repotting. You can consider repotting every 2-3 years if the plant becomes truly root-bound in its pot.
8. Common Problems: Pest and disease problems are rare with Sansevierias, but watch out for mealybugs and spider mites. Treat them quickly if you spot them.
